Enter sex, age, height and weight to get an estimated body fat percentage and category.
The calculator is a guide, not medical advice. If you have a health condition or are pregnant, talk to a doctor or dietitian.
It uses the Deurenberg formula: body fat % = 1.2 × BMI + 0.23 × age − 10.8 × sex (male 1, female 0) − 5.4. Categories: for men under 6% very low, 6–13% athlete, 14–17% fitness, 18–24% average, 25% and over raised; for women 14, 21, 25 and 32% respectively. The formula cannot tell muscle from fat, so it overestimates in muscular people.
About 18–24% is average for men and about 25–31% for women.
Not very: the error can be several percentage points. DEXA scans and bioimpedance scales measure more closely, though they have an error too.
BMI looks only at height and weight. Body fat percentage tries to separate fat from the rest of your mass, so it suits people who train better.
